The new Hotel Remota is located in the town of Puerto Natales, in the Seno de Ultima Esperanza province, the best starting place to visit the area. It has a privileged location by the ocean at the starting point of the amazing mountains, lakes and glaciers of the Chilean Patagonia. Located only 158 miles from Punta Arenas and 93 miles from the Torres del Paine national park. The hotel is located in Puerto Natales and has 72 rooms, all with a view of Ultima Esperanza bay, the Balmaceda glacier and the Paine Mountain Range. Each room has 344 square feet and has a private bath, direct dial phone and safe; two meeting halls: 1900 and 1,470 square feet respectively as well as a restaurant and bar. There is an additional complex with an indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi.

3, 4 and 7-day programs are offered with set arrival and departure times to discover Chilean Patagonia. For an unforgettable and comfortable experience, 4WD vehicles are used for excursions. All tour packages offered by Hotel Remota include: transport between Punta Arena Airport and the hotel, full board, soft drinks and house wine, daily explorations with bilingual expert tour guides. Excursions have been designed for guests with different abilities and preferences. Each day they can choose from several trips to destinations like the famous Torres del Paine National Park. It is located just 2 hours north of Puerto Natales and measures 1000 square miles / 2590 km2. The breathtaking landscapes were declared Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO. Other attractions are the Milodón Cavern where scientists discovered prehistoric fossils of a giant herbivore sloth, as well as the glaciers Balmaceda and Serrano.

Excursions Puerto Natales and surrounding areas
Puerto Natales and its people: From the hotel we take an all terrain vehicle to the high sector of Puerto Natales where the local families cultivate fruit and produce in greenhouses for local consumption. After a brief exchange of opinions and experiences with the farmers, we move on to the coastal sector where the local fishermen dock their boats. Here we get an up close view of what it is like to harvest the sea in these remote surroundings of pristine mountains and fjords. Finally, we continue on foot to the city’s civic center where we get to know the Town Square and the emblematic buildings of this key emplacement of Patagonian colonization. We then visit the interesting museum where the local native population and their legacy are shown along with the history of the pioneers and first settlers of the southern Patagonia. From there, we return to Remota.

Puerto Bories – Puerto Prat: The all terrain vehicle takes us to Puerto Bories. For many years, this was the hub of economic activity in Patagonia. With an amazing view of the mountains and snow-caps that surround Ultima Esperanza fjord, we find the massive structures that for the first part of the 20th century served as the factories that processed the hides that were exported to the four corners of the globe from here. Also, we will explore the museum that illustrates the progress of man in the southern Patagonia. From here, we continue for a relaxing walk along the grassy coastline of the fjord in Puerto Prat, where we are rewarded with a majestic view of the mountains and ocean. Return to Remota.

Milodon cavern and the lakes: The all terrain vehicle takes us to the natural reserve known as the Milodon Cavern. Once there, we visit this impressive geological formation that not only served as refuge to the prehistoric Milodon, but also for years was an important settlement for the first humans to reach and thrive here. After taking in the unique natural beauty, we continue to Porteño Lake at the foot of Tenerife Mountain, where we get a privileged view of the Paine Massif. Depending on the weather conditions, we return to Remota the way we came or on the virgin trail that connects to the frontier village of Cerro Castillo that pass along the Porteño, Maravilla and Toro lakes.

Trek to the Sierra Dorotea: We go by vehicle to the bottom of this mountain range that surrounds Puerto Natales. From here we begin a walk on trails that will take us to the lookout points above the Ultima Esperanza fiord. Here we gaze over the vastness of the Patagonian landscape and its mountains, glaciers and fiords. We then make our way back to the vehicles that will take us to Remota.

Full Day trek to the Sierra Dorotea: We go by vehicle to the bottom of this mountain range that surrounds Puerto Natales. From here we begin a walk on trails that will take us to the lookout points above the Ultima Esperanza fjord. Here we gaze over the vastness of the Patagonian landscape and its mountains, glaciers and fjords. Break for a picnic lunch and continue along the cornices of the mountain range taking in all the majestic beauty of the unspoiled Patagonia. The vehicles pick us up at the end of the trail to return back to Remota.

Laguna Sofía and its valley: The all terrain vehicles take us to Sofía Lagoon where we begin a light descent that will bring us to the shores of the lagoon. We walk along the shoreline contemplating the impressive forests found in this valley surrounded by the majestic mountains that surround this magical place. After a relaxed walk that takes us back to the road, we board the vehicles for the ride back to Remota.

Navigating the fjords and channels towards the glaciers: We board a vessel early in the morning and head for the Patagonian channels. Before the daybreak, we are headed towards the glacial ice caps that descend from Mount Balmaceda and then to the Serrano. At dawn we can contemplate these massive ice formations that come down from the mountains amidst lush forests. We arrive at Puerto Toro where we can continue walking to see the Serrano Glaciar itself. We then return to the boat where we head back and can enjoy western Patagonia’s spectacular scenery in the crisp morning air.

Excursions to the Torres del Paine National Park
Wildlife and Mountains: The all terrain vehicle takes us to the most unbelievable wildlife sighting spots in the Patagonia. The area around Sarmiento Lake and at the “Cañadón Macho” sector we can see herds of wild guanacos that go about their business undisturbed by our presence. Depending on the season, we can be witness to fights between rival males, birthing females, calves playing and learning about their surroundings and other such fascinating wild animal behavior.
At the lagoons we will be in for some amazing bird watching of the various species present in the area such as: various species of ducks, swans, flamingos, birds of prey and the majestic condor all of whom are commonly sighted in the Chilean Patagonia.
Weather permitting; we can take a short walk along the shore of Sarmiento Lake to get a closer view of the Patagonian wildlife. Once we get to the shores of the Laguna azul (“Blue lagoon”) located at the base of the Sierra Masle, we will get one of the best views of the three torres (towers) that give the National Park its name.

Forests, Lakes and Ice: On this trip we take the all terrain vehicles to the western part of the Park, the humid section of lush forests, rivers and lakes where the age old walls of ice can be seen as they wind down from the magnificent and vast Campo de Hielo Sur glacier, which can also be seen on a clear day.
We will go to the Nordesnkjöld Lake scenic lookout, Salto Grande and Pehoé Lake to finally arrive at pampa of Serrano River to see one of the most typical sectors of the Patagonia. We then arrive at the Valle Pingo forest and to the shores of Lake Grey where we can walk a few yards on the unforgettable glacier ice of the Grey Glacier visible in front of us on the other side of the lake. If the weather conditions are appropriate, we can also walk exploring the shores of a 1/2 hour Nordenskjöld Lake to reach the lookout points of the Paine massif and its cuernos or horns.

Base of the Torres del Paine: We leave early in all terrain vehicles towards the Estancia Las Torres sector where we begin the trek. It is 4 hours of walking and hiking that include steep inclines and pass through ancient native forests and cross the clear mountain streams descending from the glaciers and snow-caps that crown the high mountains that surround the valley. We get to our destination at the base of the Towers where we will be at the feet of these immense granite formations that tower over us. After a stop to enjoy the spectacular view, we begin our descent that will last 3 1/2 hours. The vehicles then take us back to Remota.

Laguna Verde – Puente Weber route: Consists of a medium grade hike of 3 1/2 hours. We leave in the all terrain vehicles from the hotel and head to the Estancia Lazo 2 1/2 hours away. Once there, we get underway by entering the park through the Alberto D’Agostini pass. For 2 1/2 hours we make our way through virgin forests and valleys seldom visited until we reach the Toro Lake lookout point (a 15 minute climb up a moderate incline) where we will have a 360º panoramic view of majestic scenery. Glaciers, fields of ice, granite mountains, immense plains and clear lakes are before us in all their splendor. From here we begin our descent down sandy inclines where the vehicles are waiting to take us back to Remota.

The unspoiled Patagonia and its vast estates
To the western ranches: We head out towards the north east towards the Cerro Guido ranch and here we go to explore the remote valleys of the Sierra Baguales and the Las Chinas valley. We can observe the marvelous geological formations of this mountain range, a reference point in the history of this part of Patagonia, and then go to the boundless plains or “pampa” of the Las Chinas valley. Form here we have a magnificent view of the three towers or Torres del Paine. Our return to Remota is along the same route.

Hike through the valleys and foothills of the Sierra Baguales: A mid level hike lasting 6 hours. The vehicles take us from the hotel to the Las Cumbres ranch located in the Baguales mountains (2 1/2 hours). From this point we begin the hike over hills and valleys with a moderate incline. We can observe fossils and other geological wonders present in these mountains. After the outing we return to Remota.
